Days 53-56 Christchurch to Wellington
A few days with a fair amount of travel on coaches and a boat to move between these two cities. We stopped at Kaikoura for a dose of whales, seals and beautiful coastlines though. Oh, and the beach of death…

Our final days in the RV following our cloudy, grumpy spell turned out to be pretty perfect! Sunny skies, picture perfect lakes and mountains, stunning waterfalls and great walks. Almost made us like the RV in the end….
Every trip has it’s bad patch. This was deinitely ours (so far anyway). Don’t expect glorious pictures and happy faces in this post; instead you’ll get lots of rain and cloud and the harsh realities of living in an RV in the winter…
Our first days in the RV figuring out how it works and enjoying some beautiful sunny weather around the impressive Mount Cook, stunning Lake Pukaki, fossil filled limestone and the city of Dunedin with its wildlife rich peninsula.
Our being permanently scarred by ‘the cucumber incident’, our first stop in New Zealand was the largest city on the South Island, Christchurch. A small city which has suffered more than its fair share of tragedy over the past few years, with a series of earthquakes in 2010/2011 resulting in 80-90% of the central city area being destroyed, followed up by shootings earlier this year. We only spent a couple of days here but it was education, sobering and uplifting.
We stayed near Warrnambool for a few days rest and explored the Shipwreck Coast before driving across the third largest volcanic plain in the world to spend our last couple of days in Australia exploring Melbourne.
