The land version of Ha Long Bay, a place of towering limestone stacks and weaving waterways. We visited at an awful time to see the rice paddies (brown mud), but the caves, mountains and waterways helped us see why so many people make this a stop on their tour of Vietnam.
Our favourite place we’ve been so far – the stunning Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park. A land of steep sided karst mountains, massive caves, stalactites and stalagmites, and with a river thrown in for good measure. All relatively untouched – our idea of heaven!
We stayed just behind the excellent An Bang beach. Whilst the weather wasn’t the best, we still found time to play in the waves and get to the historic UNESCO town of Hoi An.
With just 24 hours in Ho Chi Minh City, we had to make it a whistlestop tour. Then on to Da Nang with its beaches and nearby hills, and a ridiculous amount of seafood restaurants. Day 162: Onwards to Ho Chi Minh City and the Water Puppet Show With no real rush...
Our first taste of Vietnam, and a return to our old friend the Mekong river, now split into many sub rivers across this flat plain. Where life revolves around the canals and waterways which riddle the area.
